Protect the Environment

I am dedicated to restoring and protecting the Edmonds Marsh which was preserved and stewarded by the Coast Salish tribes for generations, and now is one of the few salt water marshes left in urban Puget Sound.

I fully support the daylighting of Willow Creek to re-establish the hydraulic connection between the Edmonds Marsh and Puget Sound, restoring fish and wildlife habitat that has been lost.

A good port commissioner is a strong steward of the environment. I will ensure our beaches and water are kept clean, and that our native wildlife is able to thrive.

Fight Climate Change

Science is the study of reality, and climate science shows carbon emissions must shrink. I will work with my fellow commissioners to make the port carbon NEGATIVE, not just carbon neutral!

To aid this transition, I will fight for the installation of Solar Panels throughout the Port of Edmonds. This will reduce carbon emissions AND act as a stable long term financial investment.

On a larger scale, I would like to work with the other ports in the area to phase out legacy energy sources.

Defend Those Historically Oppressed

While port commissioner does not have much influence on the policies that would most impact the lives of marginalized communities, I stand with my BIPOC brothers and sisters and support affirmative action during hiring efforts. I will use my office to raise awareness and support for the Black Lives Matter movement, the Native American tribes, and the LGBTQIA+ community.

Our working families have been under attack since the passage of the Taft-Hartley Act, and I will fight for a requirement that all contracts with the port use unionized labor.

Building and Defending Community

For Edmonds to grow closer as a community, we must learn to take care of one another, and one way we can do this is with community gardens. I will push for the port to open community gardens as a communal space, which also reduces the carbon footprint of Edmonds by reducing shipping.

The Port of Edmonds and Puget Sound should be something for everyone to enjoy, yet the rate structure at the marina is a little too harsh on the owners of small boats and too soft on owners of large boats, (particularly with regard to dry storage). I would be interested in working to make a reasonable adjustment.
